You might have to buy eight people drinks. That's your fault. Go with the flow.

Wow, so much for MJ RIP....sigh......
He was a big influence in my life and in my dancing son's life. He had talent, no question, (more than most and maybe not as much as some but talent nonetheless)and I personally admired how he was in show business for his whole life. Like Judy Garland, tragic, and perhaps, as others mentioned, his heart gave out from pain killers, etc. All I know is that my son will never get to see him live now and we'll never know what his new dance move was going to be unless he videotaped it somewhere. |

Once the speculation, the bottom feeders and the ultra hype finally die down it will again be about the music.

Now, having read the entire thread, I'm rather short of breath.
I'm even sorrier that I won't be at Necon this year. No, it's not because I wanna see "Kenwood" and Haringa go at it with chainsaws. It's because if Kenwood (whoever he is!) REALLY believes what he wrote, well then, to paraphrase Jack Nicholson as The Joker: Wait 'till he gets a load of ME! How many of you would PAY to see THAT meeting, eh? <g> Back to La Jackson, for a minute. Yes, it's true he revolutionized music and donated to charity etc. And he was probably a victim of some kind of arrested emotional development and may have, for all intents and purposes, been mentally and emotionally a child. However, he screwed a LOT of people and caused HUGE amounts of financial hardship by behaving like a spoiled, entitled brat with NO thought to the consequences of his actions on others. Yes, there were some who "took" advantage of his celebrity (or tried to). But, some of the unpaid bills he left with shopkeepers, employees who worked at "menial" labor jobs who weren't paid (or whose pay was delayed), the general way he seemed to have treated people who were not his "equals" is, I find, kind of pathetic and disgusting. And, as I understand it, even in bankruptcy, he didn't stop spending on luxuries. So, as far as I'm concerned, I'll feel bad that the "artist" is gone. But, I won't shed any tears over the loss of the man himself. |

Um. It's BURGER KING DIAMOND. sheesh...
yes, that's who I am.... And I took down my posts, because I decided it was better, I rarely take part in firefights, I actually loathe them...And upon seeing the typo written ramblings of mine, I thought...Um...I'm not into this. You snagged a bit before I got them down... That may not be accurate but is certainly how some come off to me.... then again I'm a misanthrope.

People here can twist my words to serve their agenda all day long, but until you've met me face to face, sat down and got to know me, you simply have no idea what you're talking about when opining on who or what kind of person I am. I know none of you, which is why you'll notice I've never once labeled anyone here. How many of you can say the same? NECON will be a good time. Apparently I'm buying a lot of forgive-me beers. |

Lawrence Dagstine wrote:That he was taking pain killers is not a difficult deduction to make, given his situation. And meperidine isn't really that heavy, in terms of potency. The main problem with it is that it is very short acting, so you have to keep chasing each dose every 2-3 hours (if you are dependent), and it's dangerous to take long-term due to the build-up of a toxic metabolite (normeperidine). It's also dangerous to take together with a variety of other drugs, as the accumulation can eventually lead to CNS toxicity (via Serotonin Syndrome). If someone taking Demerol were also on antidepressants, for example, the combination could be potentially fatal. |

I don't think I shall reply to Kenwood any longer.
The whole P.O.V. is just...I don't know....Paleolithic? (I was going to say Neandrethal but I was uncertain if it's spelled NeandrAthal or NeandrEthal or some other way entirely. If anyone knows offhand, please feel free to correct.) In any case, it just makes me cringe and cringing causes unattractive wrinkles which I would prefer to avoid. But Lawrence! My dear boy!!! I just want to say that contrary to the opinion of practically everyone else on here, I simply ADORE your creative use of the word "doink"! Perhaps the context may have been rather implusive and just a tad crass or insensitive as Vince pointed out, but the USE of the word AT ALL is brilliant, just brilliant! In fact, I daresay I had not even THOUGHT of the word "doink" in about 30 years, much less used it in a coherent sentence. It tickled me so damned much that I fully intended to pepper my conversations with it for at LEAST the next several weeks -- or until I get tired of using it. And, as for YOU Vince....shame on you for criticising!! We must EMBRACE these unique little gems of vocabulary. In fact, I shall be massively displeased with you should you FAIL to use the word "doink" at LEAST thrice in every communication between us for the next month or two. You WILL, however, get credit for TWO written "doinks" for every jpg "doink" that you send me. You will receive credit for THREE WHOLE "DOINKS" (!!!!!) should the pictoral "doink" be attached to somone hunky with whom I want to have sex. And, as for the REST of you, who persist in engaging in these tawdry, TAWDRY battles of word and wit, of liberal versus conservative, of open minds against closed ones, or urban erudition against primitive troglodytism, just remember this and be VERY afraid..... When I am Queen of the Universe, NONE of this will matter! |

It's one con where everyone is smart enough to leave all the petty bullshit at home where it belongs. The fact that petty arguments and battles not being welcome at Necon is part of what makes it the best con in existence.

Kenwood wrote:That said -- it's not hilarious to the people who have this situation. In fact, they face a lifetime of bigotry, threats, and often violence. You may not understand it, but you should concede that there are some issues people have that you don't understand, and respect it. There are transgendered people on this board, and in the horror community, and calling their very difficult situation "hilarious" is a poor choice of words (which I'm guessing you realize now). You may want to speak to some transgendered people in the community -- you may find it very interesting and eye-opening to learn some of the hardships they face.

Shocklines wrote:Matt, I wasn't calling their situation hilarious. That comment above is taken out of context. I wasn't passing judgment in that manner at all. I was asking a simple question: if a man can feel that he's a woman his whole life, and make surgical changes to his body to closer achieve a goal of becoming a woman, or as much of a woman as can be, then why is it so unthinkable that a man--in this case Michael Jackson--may feel that's he a child? Assuming Michael Jackson was not a child molester, are not the same processes here at work? I said "crazy" and "mentally off" earlier, which was a bad choice of words as it elicits entirely the wrong kind of images, suggesting I think this sort of thing is wrong. I do not, of course. I simply wanted to know why people are so accepting of transgenders but so defiantly against the notion of a man truly thinking and feeling as if he's a child? Again, assuming Jackson was not a child molester. That is what I said was hilarious, the inability for some to accept something that is so very similar. There was no bigoted or homophobic intent behind any of my comments. And again, if any of you felt that was the case, I sincerely apologize.
