If there are, just curious if you use your membership, and what for. I can't remember ever even logging into the website.

I took the test...got admitted...then never joined...I could never see the point in paying them money...

Ditto what Bryon said. My twin brother, Tim, however, is an active member of the Rochester, NY chapter (he's also a writer; five published books to his
credit, from 91 to 96).

They tried to get me to join many moons ago. I went to one meeting, was bored out of my apparently-high-IQ mind, and never went back.

I also took the test once, just for fun, and I passed, but I couldn't ever figure out what I'd get by actually joining, so I never did. That was at
least ten years ago, but I don't think I'd join today either.

Likewise, but I'd rather not think about how long ago...

Don't you worry about it, Jan. From now on I'll type real slow, since I know you can't read fast.
So, I guess what I should take away from this is, there aren't any kick-ass writer's groups or horror groups I'm missing out on by not going on the site, and I should just let my membership lapse.

I'm a member here in the UK. The magazine gets sent out to all UK members, so I post news reports etc, and they have lots of sub groups devoted to horror,
sci-fi, fantasy, writing etc that you can get involved with. Like anything else, I guess you get out what you put in.

I got an invite in my late teens after I finished high school in three years.
Then I sort of turned into a juvie punk and no longer cared. |

I'm in the same boat as Bryon.
I guess we writers are a smart bunch, but we don't enjoy hanging out with other smart people, unless they're also writers! Maybe that keeps us grounded. Or maybe we should all go to a meeting and give them wedgies (melvins) and swirlies, like on the episode of Married with Children!

Same as Bryon, I never really saw the point. But then, I've never been much of a joiner and don't see the point of a lot of organizations.
Seems to me most more or less boil down to mutual admiration societies or excuses for people to feel important and impressed with themselves. Not my thing. Greg www.gregfgifune.com |

I am not now, nor have I ever been, a member of MENSA. And seeing as how they don't admit dumbasses, I never will be.

I was a member a long time ago, but I found the meetings (and the people, sad to say) boring.
I'm a "she."

My dad and I were both members when I was in high school. I found the other members we did get to meet boring and a bit uppity, honestly.

I passed the test but didn't want to fork out for the pleasure of being 'intelligent'. It didn't seem very intelligent to do so.

My 3 year old son is a member. I, however, am not.
I figured what better way to brag about how smart my kid is. |

I was a member for a year. The magazine was cool, and the books were good. But I found that I could get the same MENSA books cheaper used (which was my
favorite part of the magazine). Like many here, I found the meetings boring. Who wants to sit in a room and listen to a bunch of middle-mangement and
engineers complain about how stupid their bosses are?
