MChristian, I believe, recommended this movie on his blog. I'd never seen it before, and I just want to second the recommendation to those of you who enjoy
horror that's not the kind you'd ever find in the horror section. Besides being fairly prophetic of where media and politics would go, this 1957 gem of
a movie takes you from a whisper to a scream, basically, but without anything other than a handful of characters.
I want to make clear: it's not a horror movie, yet it has a horrific idea or two within it. Beautifully scripted, directed, performed...Andy Griffith, Patricia Neal, Walter Matthau, Tony Franciosa, Lee Remick, among others. Bud Schulberg scripted and Elia Kazan directed. This is really a remarkable film. I don't even want to tell much about it -- half the fun is seeing where it goes and how it gets there.
