I've yet to hear any good stories about people which have met him. From what I gather, he can be quite the dick.
Anyone have any tales about meeting him?

I'm getting ready to meet Tom Savini at a convention, but I'm quite nervous.

My Tom Savini story -
First time I talked to him, I had bought (yes purchased) a copy of "Children of the Living Dead and brought the CD cover for him to sign - while signing it he said... Throw this peice of shit away... Not bad... You used to be able to bring stuff to sign and he wouldn't charge - now you have to buy something off the table and he signs it. Last time at Monstermania 11 he was a bit of a prick. I don't know wht he does conventions - I can't remember seeing him smile a lot. Maybe with the whole Planet Terror thing going on plus Lost Boys2 he'll be "happy" - just buy something, tell him he's pretty...maybe not pretty... Some of the props he has on his table are pretty cool tho |

Even the smallest bit actor is charging, even if you bring your own object to sign. Savini phrases it as "Autographs free, but you must buy one
item." So when he signed my Gospel of the Living Dead (and expressed polite interest in it) he threw in a signed Land of the Dead poster. I do live in
fear that he'll take it badly that I didn't include the Night remake in GOTLD and yell at me at the next con, but so far, my one brief dealing with him
has been fine.

I met Savini at a Philly-area screening of his Night of the Living Dead about ten years ago. He signed a lobby card
from Friday The 13th, told me a brief but funny story about the scene, and was incredibly friendly. I've heard stories of him being less friendly at
conventions, but what I experienced was exactly the opposite.

Me, too. We worked out at the same time at the gym at Horrorfind one year, and cracked jokes the whole way. Nice guy.

I met him last year at a con. He was cordial and signed anything you had for free... if you bought something from him.
I bought his makeup effects book and he signed it. Later, I bought a Dawn of the Dead poster and he signed it for free. Pretty cool dude.

Tom's a great guy. I've met him on several occasions, shared drinks and broke bread with him, and each and every time has been a joy.

I've met Tom about 20 times since 1985 at various cons, and he's always been great to me. I know he got pissed one year when people were asking him to
sign these unlicensed Japanese action figures of his DAWN/biker character---but I guess I'd be to.
Many people also told me a few people were idiots, and every time I've had to disagree. The only 2 people I would not waste my time with at a con are: 1) Butch patrick--yes--Eddie Munister himself, who as far back as 1991 was charging 30 bucks for autographs!! AND he was being quite obnoxious at the time (I've heard he hasn't changed). 2) An author who will go unnamed---suffice it to say I'll never touch anything of his, despite people being amazed that I haven't read anything by him yet. 3) A few people told me how horrible Kane 'JASON' Hodder was, but when I took my son to meet him he not only signed my son's mask for free, but hung out with us for a good 20 minutes while other people came by for autographs. He was a great guy. -Nick |
