Just wanted to offer a quick word of thanks to all the people (and others) who agitated for an affordable edition of the restored version of this book. The
Leisure paperback went up for pre-order on Amazon the other day.

a pretty darn good coverThanks. That would seem to be the general consensus. When I talked to Don about what I wanted to see on the cover, he totally got it (and impressed me by saying it warranted a "classy" image with a "big book" feel to it). Obviously, the Leisure art department got it too. I think this is perfect -- intense, atmospheric, arresting. I'm quite pleased. |

I own the early Leisure edition. Guess I'll push this summer read toward Fall. Thanks for letting me know.

I agree. It's also a damn good novel. Leisure's quite fortunate to have an author as gifted as Robert Dunbar in their lineup. Go Rob. Greg www.gregfgifune.com |

As somebody who read the first paperback "version" of this book I am really looking forward to seeing it done properly. Between the uncut The Woods
Are Dark and the uncut "The Pines" Leisure is really doing a bang-up job these days in getting it right.
Nice cover too. I grew up in pine woods like that. Makes a fellow homesick, but in a good way. |

By all means, push away. Didn't I mention? Leisure will release THE SHORE a few months later. (In between, Delirium does a collectors' edition of MARTYRS & MONSTERS.)

Leisure's quite fortunate to have an author as gifted as Robert Dunbar in their lineup. It's always so wonderful (and a bit odd) when an author whose work you venerate seems to respect yours as well. Thanks, Greg. Thanks, everybody. All this kind encouragement means so much. |

What sort of differences exist between this edition and the original? Was it mangled as much as Laymon's book?
Thanks, Pegleg |

You know, Rob, for what it's worth, I did get that your heroine was black, even though the mention of it was omitted. I read a couple of pages since I
couldn't wait for the fall release. I'm definitely waiting now since what I saw was very compelling. I have to read it in its original state.
That's how good this book feels.

Good move. I've read them both. Rob's original vision is far superior to the hacked version. Greg www.gregfgifune.com |
