Hellboy 2 -- really great crazy fun |
Lead | |

I really dug this quite a bit. I found it about on par with the first Hellboy, which I also really enjoyed (although this one ups the visual ante quite a bit).
The film is absolutely stunning to look at and genuinely funny in parts (and genuinely horrific in one part as well). I had a lot of fun with it. If I have one
complaint about it, it's that it's somewhat frontloaded -- the three best segments for me were all in the first half. But still -- a great silly
action-packed time at the movies. Del Toro rocks.

Can't wait. I bought the SE of part one this week and watched it last night. Really like it, but it look as if #2 will be better.

I loved it! It was great fun and the enthusiastic audience made it even better.

Huh. I'm really conflicted on this one - Until I came here, just about every post I read said it was crap. But the critics liked it. What to do!!!

Yeah -- the audience I saw it with actually clapped when it was over! That's very rare around here . . . probably only the second or third movie I've ever seen where that happened. I really, really liked it. Although I disagree with a lot of the reviews I've read that claim it blows the first movie away. I dug them equally (although I don't know if it's fair to compare them, really, considering their two very different entities tonally -- the first was a much more occult/horror piece, where THE GOLDEN ARMY showed the director's adoration for all things fantasy). I did think this one felt a little long, and it almost seemed to be a case of "over-stimulation," if that makes any sense whatsoever . . . then again, it doesn't feel at all right to bitch about such a thing, considering that's what we pay for when we go to see a big comic-book movie! I agree 100% with Matt's B/B+ grade. If nothing else, HELLBOY 2 just got me more excited to see Guillermo Del Toro's next project, and the one after that, and the one after that . . . . I'll see *anything* Del Toro's involved with. The guy's a genius. J.N. |

I may go see this one tonight. I love Del Toro, and always try to help out his box office total.

Liked it a lot. Just finished the Cinema Knife Fight review for FearZone - should be posted tonight at midnight (I hope). Love del Toro. Did my research and
found out the beer Hellboy drinks in the movie - Tecate - is a real Mexican beer. Now I wanna try it.

I was watching it, today, at the theater. I saw the trailer for the Quarantine, btw. We got to a certain
part of the movie when... the power went out. We had to leave the movie theater, but I did get a free movie ticket out of it. Ironically it was a free movie
pass that I was using to see this one.
It was interesting to watch from what I saw...

Oddly enough, I'm not that much of the ol' Hellboy fanatic, but this movie DOES look good. Hopefully, I can get me a decent bootleg.

QUARANTINE is an American remake of the very, very good (almost great) French film *REC. The trailer makes it pretty clear that its a nearly shot-for-shot remake, too. *REC predates DIARY OF THE DEAD, so if anyone was "ripped off", it was the other way around. REC Trailer: click here.
