Right now I'm finishing up the new issue of Doorways Magazine then onto this... THE SUICIDE COLLECTORS
Synopsis: The Despair has plagued the earth for five years. Most of the world's population has inexplicably died by its own hand, and the few survivors struggle to remain alive. A mysterious, shadowy group called the Collectors has emerged, inevitably appearing to remove the bodies of the dead. But in the crumbling state of Florida, a man named Norman takes an unprecedented stand against the Collectors, propelling him on a journey across North America. It's rumored a scientist in Seattle is working on a cure for the Despair, but in a world ruled by death, it won't be easy to get there… "The Suicide Collectors" blends horror with drama and traces of the fantastic (futuristic technology, supernatural elements), and adds a unique twist to the post-apocalyptic blueprint.

Read The Mystic Arts of Erasing all Signs of Death by Charlie Huston and enjoyed it very much. I want to read his earlier novels. Also Finished two
novellas: The Vampire of Ropraz by Jacques Chessex--a disappointment that adds nothing new to the vampire canon and Paul G. Tremblay's The
Harlequin and the Train which I liked a lot. Scary clowns!

You'll love Charlie Huston's "Hank Thompson" trilogy, Ellen. The novels are even darker than MYSTIC ARTS. THE SHOTGUN RULE is also a hell of
a read. I haven't tackled his vampire books yet but by all accounts they're terrific as well.

Ellen Datlow wrote:His Joe Pitt, Vampire novels are solid, but you simply HAVE to start with the Hank Thompson trilogy, CAUGHT STEALING, SIX BAD THINGS, and A DANGEROUS MAN. I've read all three books multiple times. They're just begging to be translated to the silver screen. |

I had to have more Lansdale after Vanilla Ride, so I dug out Lost Echoes, which I tried a couple years ago and didn't like. What was I thinking? I dunno.
I remember being squicked out by the guys in bed with the dead woman and that's where I stopped. Thankfully for my delicate sensibilities, Joe didn't
go into unnecessary detail, so this time, I got past it.
The character of Joey (the loser friend) is so well done. Who doesn't know someone like that? |

I am re-reading Interview with the Vampire. I remember reading this book years ago and thinking that it was the first time a vampire was
'humanized'...at least the first time that I remember.
