I read this one when I was a boy, and it was already an old short story then because my grandfather photocopied it from one of his mags and told me I'd
enjoy it. I wanna say it was written by Theodore Sturgeon but that's probably wrong.
It's about a boy who finds a cube in his backyard. It's not a normal cube and soon attracts a media circus, reporters and scientists gather at the house to find out the origins of the cube and its purpose. And the big reveal -- because there's always a big reveal -- is that the boy didn't want to go to school that morning so he imagined the cube into existence.
If anyone could help with the title and author, I'd be appreciative.
