There has been talk lately about "saving teh genre," from the alleged circle-jerking and back-scratching that goes on, and from the mediocre
standards that often prevail (a phenomenon hardly unique to horror!).
But instead of saving the genre, wouldn't it be better to set up a second horror genre, where popular people aren't welcome, and where social ineptitude is smiled upon or even rewarded? I can imagine the conversations:

"Yeah, I googled his pic, he was standing next to Sandy Mertz, who is good-looking, like wtf is she doing in the genre of misfits, which is horror?"
