A lot of you folks know Vince, either from his posts here or from personal e-mails you've exchanged with him. Vince has been on the transplant list for a new liver for a few years now, but it soon won't matter. His daughter and I spoke earlier and Vince is fading fast. He's got a mass on his pancreas, his liver is shutting down, and he's got bleeding in the brain. I "spoke" with him on the phone -- he can hear, but he's limited in his responses, mostly grunts at this point, but he's still able to recognize people's voices.
If you're a friend of Vince's and want the chance to say goodbye, please e-mail me privately and I'll give you the cell number.
And just so you know, neighbors are going to bring Cornbread (his cat of 15 years) over to be with him tonight, so he will be surrounded by those he loves and who love him. He's been a magnificent friend to Lucy and me, and we're both very sad (to put it mildly) right now.
