DEADLIEST OF THE SPECIES by Michael Olivieri |

I've heard of this novel for a couple of years and have all but come to the conclusion that I'll never be able to read it. The only copies I can find
available anywhere are waaaaay out of my budget. For a while I hoped that I might be able to discover a copy through the interlibrary network herein MA (which
rarely lets me down)

I know what you mean - it took me a couple of years to get a copy of DEADLIEST OF THE SPECIES. It is worth the hunt. Excellent story filled with witches and bitches. That's why I was so surprised that no one bid on my copy when I listed it a couple of weeks ago on eBay. |

I have the book and I keep telling myself I should read it but some other books keeps getting in the way. I think I will move it to the top of the stack.

under-rated writer and a really nice guy to boot. I really loved this book and though it cleaned up most of the loose ends, it left one giant big one that
really makes me wish he would do second one (and he's said that he has a rough idea on where it would go).
Another thing that he did that no one hasn't brought up yet is that he has a story in the The Phantom Chronicles: New Tales Of The Ghost Who Walks antho that Moonstone put out last year and he did have a three part comic also put out through them as well. Still waiting for him to give some news (if there is any) on the Wounded Gods project that he was talking about a year and a half ago. I really dug the art and the story that was planned sounded really wicked

I definitely recommend his RESTORE FROM BACKUP which I found to be a really nifty, clever tale.

Hi all,
Thanks for the comments and interest, I appreciate it. Thanks also to Jan and John for pointing me this way. Deadliest hasn't been available since shortly after its publication, and while I've written two more novels since then, they're garbage. So far I'm proud of the one I'm working on now, which has the working title Powerless. Beyond that, the other projects that have been released are listed above. It's been a bit slow for me the last couple years. Rex -- Wounded Gods now has a home. The publisher and I are discussing whether it will be prose (with several illustrations or perhaps some supplemental sequential art) or an OGN. I'm hoping for the latter, but it's going to depend upon the artist situation. I'm also discussing a few more projects with this publisher, but it's all very preliminary and we're far from announcing anything. I can neither confirm nor deny Wrath of Squirrel's rumor, but getting Deadliest of the Species reprinted in English is a major goal of mine because people are constantly asking me about it. While I hate to discourage Ralph from reading his copy or anyone from bidding on Jan's, I'd almost rather folks be patient for the new version because I think it will be far superior and worthy of print. The story is the same, I just cleaned up the narrative in hopes of matching my current writing style (I finished it in '98 and my writing has changed since then). Meanwhile, it's Germany and Austria FTW. Take care, Mike |

DEADLIEST OF THE SPECIES is a great book that deserves a wider audience. Good luck with getting an affordable edition released in English, Mike.
And I totally second the comment that Mike's a great person, as well as a kick-ass writer. Seek his stuff out.

Maybe if we keep bumping this thread someone in the publishing world will notice and release an affordable version

dancingwith2leftfeet wrote: We'll get there. It's definitely a story I want to tell, and the first of two novellas following To Travel is already finished. However, with my German publisher already interested in seeing Powerless and a Chicago publisher interested in some possible comics work, my focus has to be there. Mike

I held my breath for Leisure for a while, but after a few years I got tired of turning blue and passing out.
