Just a note. John Kerry beat GWB in all three debates. With that in mind The United States voted GWB into a second term. With that information I wonder if a
debate is really needed. Have people of The United States decided. Anyone still on the fence on this one or will a debate change your mind.

IMHO - John Kerry did not win all 3 debates and was lucky if he won any.
For those who like a challenge try this Debate Drinking Games All across the nation, the electorate is gearing up for the first presidential debate. And on the Internet, drinking games are popping up with some frequency. So take some lemons, make some lemonade and get ready to chug-a-lug. Here's an edited compilation of some of the prompts, with a few of our own sprinkled in. Take one drink: * Every time Barack Obama says, "Now look..." * Every time John McCain says, "My friends..." * When a commentator refers to someone as a "maverick" * Every time you hear the phrase "the American dream" * Whenever you hear the words "hope" or "ownership society" or "fellow Americans" Take two drinks: * When one of the candidates uses the word "change" or "reformer" * Every time either candidate says the word "economy" * Every time either candidate says "middle class" Above all, drink responsibly. And be sure to save some lemonade for the Oct. 2 debate between Sarah Palin and Joe Biden. |

To be honest the press called the third debate a tie at best. Your very wrong on this one. Again this is how the press called it and not me. Somehow in the last four years you turned it around. |

We're watching Carnivale Season II instead of the debates. I've waited on Carnivale longer...I know that's probably awful, but ...
That's a nice drinking game, though!!

Partisans aren't going to budge, but the crucial middle remains somewhat open-minded, if not completely on the fence. These debates can be important if
properly run. I don't believe in silly "gotcha" questions, but over the three metings the moderators should probe to see who has a good command
of history, knows specific facts with respect to both allies and enemies, operational details for running the US government, the constitution, intent and
obligations under existing treaties, basic economic principles and other specifics. We have to stop screwing around and pick a functional President to get us
out of a gazillion messy situations. How are they going to do that? Make them be precise, make them justify and explain their positions, mostly don't like
it be another slime fest. If someone gets pasted with a truth, let 'em wear it--ask follow up questions when they try to bob and weave. But if it's
just going on offense to avoid answering, bust them for it.
I found the Gore/Bush and Kerry/Bush debates pretty awful. Dumbed down to the lowest common denominator. We've had enough of that. We need the smartest guy possible. I know, that may not be what the average American wants, which is how we got into this steaming pile of excrement. God, wish I hadn't quit drinking |

Harry I agree with you on the dumb downing of the debates. I am looking forward to tonight's debates. We will see how well each candidate things on his
feet w/o any teleprompters or scripted answers.

I have to give this lackluster debate to Obama.
It wasn't that Obama was impressive, so much as, McCain was somewhat disappointing. What is it, 39 days or so? |

Yeah, thought Obama took it on style if not points, although it was kind of a barbituate of an evening. John McCain seemed disrespectful, condescending,
impatient and at times borderline unstable. He almost never looked Obama in the eye (something many folks have noticed when they've met recently). Seems
that although McCain has likely persuaded himself that Obama is an unqualified upstart, and that all the fibs and dirty tricks are justified, there's also
a bit of conflict and guilt going on within him about all of this. It hurts a bit to see him sell himself out so badly.
Although I wasn't dazzled by Barack Obama, he held his own through several attacks, and showed a lot of grace under pressure and real class. At times this reminded me a bit of Reagan with Carter, especially when Obama softly and spontainiously laughed at McCain's trying to compare him to George W. Bush. Sort of a "there you go again" moment. The early polls give it to Obama by a wide margin, at least with everyone but the 38% or so that's the usual Republican base, and my guess is that it once again came down to personality. Barack Obama seems firm enough, but also pleasant, less partisan and willing to agree with McCain on several points. Independents and moderate Republicans will like that. Although John McCain impressed me with his detailed grasp if some complexforeign policy issues (such as the situation in Russia) he also seemed combative, impatient and quite disrespectful. I suspect that will hurt him tomorrow. On the other hand, I thought Bush ranged from so-so to flat out atrocious in damned near every debate in 2000 and 2004 and he won anyway. So what the hell do I know. I still can't believe we're in the mess we're in. |

I was disappointed with the entire sideshow. Neither one gave a direct answer on any issue and neither would commit to anything. They never did answer the
bailout question even after the moderator pushed them to answer. Debates won't change anything. Our healthcare system is being broken from treating
illegals and drug addicts who never pay the bills they run up. Bet they won't mention that in a debate. Obama had what looked like part of an anti-acid
tablet stuck to his lip for awhile. No wonder...with the entire world watching I would have probably puked first thing. Neither candidate has the slightest
idea how people making ends meet live.
We all have our minds made up. Since I'm a combat veteran, I'm going with McCain because he'll take care of veterans. I couldn't vote for Obama if he floated down from Heaven because I believe inside he's a radical Muslim and I can't get past his name since we're at war with radical Muslims and he suddenly came out of nowhere.

If last night's debate was any indication, then its clear that neither man is anywhere near ready or qualified to run this country. It was pathetic on

The REAL drinking game would have to include taking a drink every time Obama called McCain some other name than "John." (Jim? Tom? Etc.) I have
to think that was purposely fucking with him.

Obama is not a Muslim. Sadly, John McCain gets a very low rating from several Iraq/Afghan veterans rights groups over the last four or five years, and
Obama's is quite high. Whatever we may think hope we'll all do the fact checking this time around, and not get snowed like we did the last couple of
times.
And that we all go out and vote. John, we may be permanently polarized, and if so that's very sad, because it means we're screwed. |

BryonMorrigan wrote: Yeah, but JIM Lehrer was the moderator. And most of the time, Obama, like McCain, was answering directly to him and making eye contact with him. There may be a case where Obama was looking at McCain and said, "Jim," but you can still make the case that Obama was addressing the moderator who asked the question. |

Obama was careful to be respectful and under control. Hell, it's his nature anyway, and he's savy enough to know McCain would boil over from time to
time without assistance, and anyway Barack wouldn't risk a delioerate provocation like that ending up on YouTube. He was talking to Jim Lehrer, and asking
for space to comment back against what he felt was a fillibuster from McCain. It was a thin line to walk, being both firm and decent, but he did it well.
Bradley, those fact-check connections are great, and it warms me heart to see people doing their homework |

What? Are you serious? I've seen this in forwarded e-mails but I've never encountered anyone who actually believes it. McCain did better than I expected. I'd feel better about a McCain victory if it weren't for Palin. She's the one we need to be afraid of, not Obama. |
