Personally, I don't think the ladies get enough recognition for what they have done, and are doing, to keep the genre kicking and screaming. I'd like to help change that with DR in the future. We've already taken steps to make sure we cover one major name and one small press rising star writer in every issue. I just want to make sure we don't get too male-centric with our feature authors and reviews. For the darkness grows cold and heavy...we should strive to keep one another warm. I mean, obviously other women are editors and put together anthologies, but there aren't that many great editors or anthologists in horror (or anyplace else), period. Let's see...writers...living... Modern female horror writers....are not as good as modern male horror writers. That is an unassailable fact. How can you argue otherwise? None of the women you have named(honourable exception for Tanith Lee and possibly Poppy Brite) can write half as well as the male horror writers I can name. If you're talking female horror writers that have died or are not as prolific as they used to be...that's different. But generally speaking men are kicking our asses. And it's a shame.
